Message from the Dean
“Welcome to the School of Public Health, Emerging Healthcare & Technology (SPHEHT) at Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth in Hyderabad, Telangana! There has never been a more critical or exciting time to enter the healthcare field.”
There has never been a more critical or exciting time to enter the healthcare field. Today, we face a complex web of global challenges—from the escalating impacts of climate change and the rise of non-communicable diseases to the urgent need for advanced infectious disease surveillance, equitable health policy, and the efficient administration of complex hospital systems. To solve these interconnected crises, we need a new generation of healthcare leaders who are not only grounded in grassroots community realities and clinical operations but are also fluent in the technologies of tomorrow.
My own professional journey has profoundly shaped this belief. Starting with my clinical training in Dental Surgery in Mumbai, I transitioned to population health, earning my PhD in Public Health at UT Health Houston. My subsequent years as a researcher at the Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University and the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Mount Sinai in New York taught me the immense power of interdisciplinary science. Whether utilizing advanced bioinformatics to understand the genetics of congenital heart disease or leveraging data to drive public health policy, I witnessed firsthand how blending clinical knowledge with cutting-edge data science and operational strategy can transform healthcare delivery on a global scale.
At SPHEHT, Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth—a premier destination for health sciences education in India—we have built an academic ecosystem that reflects this modern reality. Through our comprehensive Bachelor of Public Health (BPH), Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Public Health, Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health, and Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) programs, we are breaking down traditional silos. Our curriculum is deeply rooted in the Indian healthcare landscape—addressing critical issues like mental health, sanitation, maternal well-being, and hospital quality management—while maintaining a robust global outlook. We immerse our students in “One Health” frameworks, digital health informatics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and planetary health, ensuring they are equipped with the exact skills the world currently demands across all public health and healthcare administration fields.
We believe that true learning happens at the intersection of theory and practice. Thanks to our deep integration with Malla Reddy Health City and our strategic partnerships with corporate hospital networks, global organizations, NGOs, and government agencies, our students do not just study healthcare—they actively practice it. From analyzing field data in rural Telangana to optimizing patient care pathways in multi-specialty hospitals and collaborating on cross-border research initiatives, SPHEHT provides a Launchpad for meaningful, scalable impact.
Whether you are a passionate undergraduate ready to take your first steps, or a seasoned professional looking to accelerate your executive leadership, SPHEHT is a place where your ambitions will be nurtured.
I invite you to join our vibrant community of innovators, researchers, administrators, and change makers. Together, let us shape a healthier, more equitable, and highly efficient future for India and the world.
