Course Overview

The M.Sc. Ophthalmic Assistant program at Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth, Hyderabad, is designed to provide advanced knowledge and training in assisting ophthalmologists in diagnosing, treating, and managing eye disorders. This postgraduate program focuses on equipping students with the skills required to support ophthalmic procedures, operate advanced diagnostic equipment, and deliver patient-centric eye care.

This program focuses on equipping students with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills from 1st semester itself. The curriculum covers ocular anatomy, diagnostic imaging, surgical assistance, and rehabilitation techniques for visual impairments. Students gain hands-on experience in assisting during ophthalmic surgeries, performing vision assessments, and managing eye care clinics.

Graduates of this program emerge as ‘skilled Eye Care Technologists’, enabling them to pursue further higher studies and research in Ophthalmic Technology, along with plenty of job opportunities globally in hospitals, ophthalmology clinics, and research institutions, contributing significantly to improving eye health and patient outcomes.

Description: 2 Years Degree Program

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in Ophthalmic Technology, Optometry, or any allied health sciences field with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized university or equivalent.

  • Diagnostic Techniques in Ophthalmology: Expertise in conducting advanced diagnostic procedures, such as tonometry, visual field testing, OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), and fundus photography.
  • Surgical Assistance: Skills in assisting ophthalmologists during surgeries, including LASIK, cataract, and retinal procedures, ensuring precision and efficiency.
  • Ophthalmic Equipment Handling: Mastery of operating and maintaining state-of-the-art ophthalmic instruments, such as slit lamps, phacoemulsification machines, and keratometers.
  • Patient Education and Counseling: Ability to counsel patients on pre- and post-operative care, vision therapies, and the use of corrective lenses or prosthetics.
  • Ethics and Regulatory Compliance: Awareness of ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks in ophthalmic practices to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Community Eye Health Programs: Competence in organizing and participating in community eye health initiatives to promote vision care and prevent blindness.
  • Certification in Advanced Ophthalmic Diagnostics: Training in imaging and diagnostic techniques.
