Course Overview

The Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) – Pulmn program at Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth, Hyderabad, is a postgraduate course designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills in physiotherapeutic techniques, clinical management, and research methodologies to enhance patient recovery and mobility.

This program focuses on equipping students with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills from the 1st semester itself. The curriculum focuses on advanced manual therapy, exercise physiology, electrotherapy, and specialized practices in fields such as orthopedics, neurology, sports medicine, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Students gain hands-on experience in clinical settings, learning to design and implement personalized treatment plans for diverse patient needs.

Graduates of this program emerge as ‘Senior Physiotherapists, Clinical Specialists, or Academicians’, enabling them to pursue further higher studies & do research in Physiotherapy along with plenty of job opportunities globally in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports clinics, and educational institutions.

Course Details

Description: 2 Years Degree Program

No. of Credits: 80 minimum and as specified

The minimum eligibility is a BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) degree or equivalent with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized university.

The MPT curriculum with a Pulmonary specialization builds upon the general MPT foundation, providing advanced training in physiotherapy techniques, clinical practice, and rehabilitation specifically related to respiratory conditions. While the general structure remains, the content within certain subjects will be tailored.

Semester 2

Orthopedic Physiotherapy (relevant to pulmonary conditions), Neurological Physiotherapy (relevant to pulmonary conditions), Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy (including a strong focus on Pulmonary): Assessment and management of various respiratory conditions, Exercise Physiology (with emphasis on pulmonary function), Practical: Pulmonary Rehabilitation Techniques

Semester 3

Sports and Exercise Therapy (adapted for pulmonary patients), Geriatric Physiotherapy (pulmonary conditions in the elderly), Manual Therapy Techniques (relevant to pulmonary conditions, e.g., chest physiotherapy techniques), Health Promotion and Fitness (for individuals with pulmonary impairments), Practical: Advanced Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Semester 4

Advanced Physiotherapy in Special Populations (focus on complex pulmonary cases), Practice Management (considerations for pulmonary-rehabilitation settings), Thesis/Research Project (likely focusing on a pulmonary-related topic), Practical: Specialized Clinical Practice (in pulmonary rehabilitation centers/hospitals)



  • Pulmonary Physiotherapy Expertise: Proficient in specialized techniques (chest physiotherapy, airway clearance, exercise, modalities) for respiratory conditions.
  • Pulmonary Assessment: Skilled in evaluating and diagnosing diverse respiratory conditions using standardized tools.
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Expert in treating individuals with various impairments (COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis, etc.).
  • Pulmonary Exercise Prescription: Skilled in creating and implementing safe, effective exercise programs to improve lung function and tolerance.
  • Pulmonary Practice Management: Able to manage/work in pulmonary-rehabilitation settings, understanding patient needs and regulations.
  • Pulmonary Research Skills: Competent in research methodology, data analysis, and clinical research within pulmonary physiotherapy.
